UK calls on Facebook to drop appeal of data protection fine

The UK’s data protection watchdog has called for Facebook to drop its appeal against a £500,000 fine for breaching data protection laws in the Cambridge Analytica scandal, following Mark Zuckerberg’s calls for more regulation of internet companies. The chief executive of the world’s biggest social network said in an opinion piece in the Washington Post on Saturday that governments and regulators needed to introduce new legislation across four areas including privacy and election integrity.
